PDO, PGI: what’s the difference?

AOPProtected Designation of Origin (AOP in French). Everything happens within the area: production, processing and preparation, following recognised know-how. It’s the strongest link to the terroir.
IGPProtected Geographical Indication (IGP in French). At least one stage takes place within the area, and the product’s quality or reputation is linked to its origin.
Renowned terroirNo official label, but a region famous for this product, often thanks to its climate, soil or a long tradition.
